Dantewada District Administration Launches Blockchain-Ssecured Land Record Application

In a groundbreaking move towards transparent land governance, the Office of Land Records, Dantewada District, in the state of Chhattisgarh, India, has launched a blockchain-secured land record application, with technological support from Zupple Labs and powered by the Avalanche blockchain platform. This pioneering initiative has digitized over 700,000 land records, making them tamper-proof and instantly verifiable.

Until now, Dantewada’s land records existed in paper format, making it challenging for both citizens and officials to locate and authenticate documents. Land-related transactions, including ownership verifications, often took several weeks due to manual searches and processing delays. With the new system, district subdivision-level revenue officers can now access and verify records within minutes, enabling citizens to complete land transactions within a day – a significant improvement from the historic weeks-long process.

Speaking about the launch, Mr Mayank Chaturvedi, IAS, District Collector of Dantewada, highlighted the transformative impact of the initiative:

"For decades, our citizens faced significant delays in accessing their land records, with verification sometimes taking weeks. By digitizing these records and securing them on blockchain, we have ensured they are easily accessible and cannot be tampered with. Now, revenue officers can retrieve and authenticate land records in minutes, making it possible for land-related services to be delivered within a day. This is a major step toward improving transparency, efficiency, and citizen trust."

This project was spearheaded by Mr. Jayant Nahata, IAS, who previously served as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Dantewada, and is currently the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Dantewada Zila Panchayat. He added:

“This initiative is groundbreaking as it has led to end-to-end digitisation and Blockchain verifiability of all land records since the 1950s, ensuring security of documents, reduced legal costs and most importantly ease of access to the common citizens of Dantewada.”
